BORNAK: Extended maintenance will begin tonight at midnight, Tuesday, October 12 for the release of patch 4.0.1. Maintenance will begin at 12:01 AM PDT and conclude at approximately 12:01 PM PDT. During this time all realms and many web services will be unavailable.

Due to the size of the patch we highly recommend you enable your background downloader. If you need assistance doing so please visit

How should you prepare?

First, you will need to find yourself a new spec and glyphs. A good place to start is the EJ Class Discussion forums. These forums also cover ideas for new rotations.

Next, look at your gear. MP5, armor pen, spell power, attack power, defense, block rating and block value have all been removed from the game. Items have a lot more stamina. 'Mastery Rating' is an added stat that increases the power of your chosen mastery. Primary stats such as strength, intellect, spirit and agility all have additional benefits to compensate for the removal of the other stats.

Be sure to look at reforging your existing gear - reforging has been introduced and it is an extremely neat way of adjusting gear to give you better stats. Runeforging allows you to transfer stat 40% of the points from one non-primary stat (or spirit) to another non-primary stat (or spirit) that the item does not already have. For example, if you have an item with 100 haste rating and no crit rating then you can transfer 40 points of haste rating to crit rating, resulting in a new item with 60 haste rating and 40 crit rating. You can find reforgers in most capital cities - just ask a guard. Check out the WoW Insider article for more info.

We will be adjusting our'>Loot Rank service later tonight to accommodate many of these new changes.
